School Council

At Prospect Hill Infant and Nursery School, we are proud to have pupil representatives from each class to take part in School Council meetings. There are 12 members which are elected by their classmates every September, and they meet once a month, with Mrs. Wain, to discuss issues and report on the ideas of their classes.

The objective of an effective School Council is to:

• Enjoy and feel empowered by their education.
• Feel that their school responds to their needs and views.
• Have the opportunity to let adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them.
• Have a say about decisions, and to play an active role in making their school a better place.
• Develop life skills through participation and co-operation.

A School Council Suggestion Box and Notice Board are located at the main entrance. Our children are encouraged to use the suggestion box to help improve our school.

Our April Meeting

We had a busy April meeting talking about our chosen charity this year, Sheffield Children's Hospital. We decided to hold Pre-loved toy sales during May and all the proceeds will go to Sheffield Children's Hospital.

We also talked about the amazing amount we raised from our Easter events.

With the help of our wonderful Friends of School Council and your support we raised £406.15.

Our March Meeting

We had lots to discuss at our March meeting and some preparations to do for our Easter Event.

We talked about the brilliant construction yard which was installed during February half term. This was bought with the money school council raised last year. We also bought some hard hats and wheelbarrows with some of the money we have raised so far this year. Have a look at our Fundraising page for more details about this.

We made a start on preparations for the Easter Event by folding raffle tickets for the chocolate tombola and made Easter cards for everyone who has helped us so far this year.

Our February meeting

Our February meeting was cancelled due to preparations for our disco the following day.

Our January meeting

Our first meeting of 2024 was full of pride for what we have achieved since September and looking forward to the rest of the school year.

We have raised just over £1000 so far with our fundraising events and we have many more planned before the summer.

After lots of discussions in our meetings and asking our friends for their thoughts, we have finally ordered a new purpose built construction yard for our Key Stage 1 playground, which will be paid for by last years fundraising. Hopefully this will be installed in February half term, so in our meeting we decided what equipment we need to buy to make it fun.

We are sure the children will have some wonderful playtimes with yet another piece of equipment on our playground.

Our December meeting

We had a busy meeting with lots of final preparations for the Christmas Event and we voted on what we should buy for the playground with last years fundraising money.

Back in September we asked our friends what they would like us to buy for the playground. We had an amazing response and got to work on making a shortlist. We then went back to our classes and discussed it further, we even asked our dinnertime staff and teachers what they thought.

We voted for a purpose built construction yard with storage. Some of the money we raised from the Christmas event will go towards some wheelbarrows and other equipment.

We would like to say a BIG thank you to all the Friends of School Council volunteers who made our Christmas Event possible!

Our November meeting

We had lots to discuss in our November meeting. With Christmas fast approaching we are trying to finalize plans for our Christmas fundraising events. It's going to be a busy Christmas at Prospect!

We also had to finish preparing for our Trick or Treat Tombola which was held on Friday 10th November, after school. We made sure we had enough donations and started to fold raffle tickets ready to go into our tombola drum.

It was a great success and we would like to give a MASSIVE shout out to everyone who supported us!

Friends of School Council volunteers, everyone who kindly donated trick or treats and all the children and families who came to have a go.

Our First Meeting of the Year

Our first meeting of the year was held on Tuesday 10th October. We talked about fundraising events and what we would like to raise money for this year. We decided to ask our friends to help us with some ideas. It was agreed that we should do a fundraiser for a local charity this year too, again we asked our friends to help us decide which charity.

We agreed our first fundraising event should be a Trick or Treat Tombola on the 10th November and then a Christmas event in December.

With all the other exciting plans we have for the coming year and all the jobs we need to do, we know it's going to be a busy year.

School Council Showcase - 10th July 2023

We held our last council meeting of the school year and invited our parents, Friends of School Council, Governors and people in the community who have helped us this year.

We showcased what we have been up to in our meetings and what we have achieved over the year.

We have had a super busy year and have raised £3300 with fundraising events.

We have already helped to buy the carpet in our new Key Stage One library and are hoping to buy some soft furnishing with a kind donation we have received. We would like to buy another piece of equipment for our playground with the rest.

All of us in School Council would like to thank our Friends of School Council for all your help with events, our Governors for judging our competitions and all our families across school and staff for your continued support this year. We couldn't have achieved what we have without your help.

What a busy few months we've had

For the past few months we have been extremely busy planning the summer fayre. We have written a great number of letters to local companies asking for raffle prize donations and we were amazed at their generosity. Another tombola was planned, where our expert raffle ticket folding came in very useful and we organised a non-uniform day in return for bottles for our bottle stall. We also asked our adults across school to donate cakes for our cake stall, and again people were very generous. 

We would like to thank everyone for supporting us with kind donations for our fayre, and for the help we have received from our Friends of School Council at the event.

Our March Meeting

We had a very busy meeting finishing off our Easter Event job list.

We finished off numbering the chocolate for the Chocolate Tombola.

Easter Bonnets have started to come in and we decided to display them in the hall.

Easter cards were made for our Easter Event helpers.

We made sure everything was ready for the cake sale too.

Our Easter Bonnet prizes were donated by Asda, Tesco and our staff.

Pre-loved Book Sales

We worked with the Reading Ambassadors to raise money to help improve our very tired KS1 library. We sent a letter out asking for book donations for a pre-loved book sale and we were amazed how many books we received.

The money raised so far has been used to buy the carpet for our new library.

 We were very lucky to have the Author Lynne Chapman come to school for World Book Day and she opened the library for us.

Our February Meeting

We began preparations for our Easter event by agreeing on activities and writing letters.

We also had a walk around school and looked at how we can promote tidiness in the cloakrooms.

Our January Meeting

We first of all want to say a BIG thank you to all of you for supporting our Christmas fundraiser! 

We really appreciate all the donations of jolly jars for the Tombola and all your support at our events.

In our meeting we wrote letters of thanks to all the companies who donated prizes for our Bauble competition, Raffle and other events. We then began planning an Easter Event. We have got some great ideas and we can't wait to share them with you.

Our December Meeting

In our December meeting we prepared the 'Jolly Jar Tombola' for our Christmas fundraising events and made Christmas cards for people who have helped us with our fundraising, as well as our friends at Beech House Care Home..

During December we also wrote to local supermarkets to ask them if they could help us with our Christmas fundraising events. Morrisons and Tesco sent us some raffle prizes and our staff donated lots of lovely treats for our Christmas hampers.  Emma at Asda sent us 4 first prize activity hampers for our 'Design a Christmas Bauble Competition'. Our Governors also agreed to judge the competition for us.

Mrs. Watkinson kindly made and donated the lovely Christmas fruit cake for our 'Guess the Weight of the cake' and Mr. Gould from Home Bargains, Rotherham was also very kind and donated the jar and chocolate coins for 'Guess the Value of the Chocolate Coins in the Jar'.

We have also been very busy working with the Reading Ambassadors to plan some Pre-loved book sales throughout December. We plan to continue these into the New Year. People have been very kind and donated hundreds of lovely books and the sales have been extremely popular.

Our November Meeting 

In our November meeting we planned our first fundraising event of the year. Together with our Reading Ambassadors we will be holding some second hand book sales throughout November. We have decided to put the money raised from this sale towards refurbishing the KS1 library. 

We also discussed other exciting fundraising events over the Christmas period.

Our First Meeting of the Year

Our first meeting of the year was held on Tuesday 10th October, and we talked about fundraising and attendance. One of our first jobs is to write to all the companies who have donated money and sent us raffle prizes over the last few years. We want to say a big thank you to them for helping us with our fundraising. Because of their help we have been able to buy our new boat and bench on our playground.

We can see it's going to be a busy year, but we are all ready for the challenge. 

Meet our 2021/2022 School Councillors.

This year School Council will continue to plan events to help raise money to improve our KS1 playground.

We had our first meeting of the year on Friday 12th November. We discussed our first fundraising event and jobs we need to do over the coming school year.  It's going to be busy, but we are looking forward to it.

What a busy year we have had!

 We had our last school council meeting tonight, Tuesday 26th July. We signed a few letters and finalised a few things, then after a biscuit and a drink, our job was done.

School Council.

The children have had a busy year doing lots of fundraising activities and other jobs around school. They have certainly stepped up to the mark through yet another difficult year due to Covid. The children have had so many wonderful ideas and we have had some lively, entertaining discussions recently. Scroll down to see what we have been up to.

I would like to say a BIG thank you to the children who have been a pleasure to work with, and to their families who have supported us by allowing the children to stay for after school council meetings over the last few months!

Summer Raffle - July 2022

After the success of the sports week fundraiser, we jumped straight into organising our last event of our School Council year, the summer raffle.

We wrote to lots of local businesses and clubs asking if they could donate raffle prizes and some of them were very kind and said they could help us.

We received some amazing hampers and books from Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Premier Foods. Dinnington Rugby Club and The Deep at Hull were really kind and donated family admission tickets so the winning families can have fun day out. Lots of other prizes were donated by kind people too.

We raised a HUGE £220

Thank you to everyone who bought tickets for your continued support.

The proceeds from this event will go towards a Buddy Bench on our new playground.

Dinnington Rugby Club

Dinnington Rugby Club also offered to come into school, free of charge, and give our year 2's a tag rugby taster session.  This took place on Friday 22nd July and the children really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it was a very rainy afternoon so we had to use the hall instead of the field but it didn't spoil the fun.

We would like to thank Elaine for organising this for us, and the coaches, Todd and Stewart for coming into school to show us how to play tag rugby.

National Sports Week Fundraiser

20th - 24th June 2022

Since our last meeting on the 14th June, which took place after school this time, we have been busy organising a fundraiser for National Sports Week.

We decided to arrange two activities, 'Name the Bear' and  'How Many Sweets in the Jar?'. These activities will be open at each event over the week where our grown up's are invited.

This event raised £150. Thank you to everyone who supported us and well done to the winners.

We also decided at this meeting to hold a Summer raffle. We have written to local businesses asking if they could help us with raffle prizes. The raffle tickets will go out within the first few weeks of July and will be drawn on Friday the 22nd July.

Jubilee artwork for Asda

We were asked by Asda to send in some Jubilee artwork for a display in their Worksop store.

We asked all this classes in school and we were given some lovely portraits of the queen and some amazing Jubilee themed computing work.  Asda loved the artwork and it was put on display. If you didn't see it, have a look at the picture below, you might see yours.

Fundraising Skydive & Design a T-shirt Competition.

Easter 2022

On Saturday 2nd April Mrs Wain took part in a tandem skydive to help us raise money for our playground project.

We asked our friends in school to help design a t-shirt that Mrs Wain could wear on the day.  We had lots of lovely entries and some of our Governors judged the competition for us. The prizes for the winning designs were given to us by ASDA in Worksop.

We have raised over £1000 so far.

Christmas Event 2021

Our first job was to plan a fundraising event for Christmas.  The first thing we decided to do was organise a Christmas bauble decorating competition. We bought some baubles, had the little tags kindly donated to us and sold the baubles to the children who wanted to take part.  Some of our Governors agreed to judge and we wrote to local supermarkets asking if they could donate some prizes for our winners.  Tesco and Morrisons were brilliant and sent us some prizes which we made into activity hampers. The entries were all amazing and our Governors had a very tricky job.

We raised £151. Thank you to everyone who entered, your designs were incredible. 

Unfortunately, due to COVID, our singing events had to be cancelled so our plans had to be changed, but that didn't stop us.

We decided to set up some hot chocolate treat tables around school. We asked for donations for the treat packs and reindeer food to be placed in out honesty tins.

Your support and kind donations raised £144.

Look at what we did in 2020/2021

Due to COVID 19 we were unable to do council meetings, organise our usual fundraising events and visit our friends at Beech House Care Home. We hope to start our meetings as soon as possible.

Monday 19th July 2021

Our summer raffle was a great success again this year, and it helped us to raise money for our KS1 playground improvements. We wrote to our local supermarkets asking if they could donate a raffle prize, they were very generous and donated lots of lovely hampers. Thaymar Ice Cream Tea Rooms sent us a voucher and we applied to The Deep for a family ticket. A very tasty picnic platter was kindly donated too.

Easter Colouring Competition 2021 

On behalf of our school council, some of our Year 2 councillors helped to organise an Easter colouring competition and we asked our Governors to judge for us.

ASDA in Worksop and Home Bargains in Rotherham donated an amazing amount of Easter goodies to give to our winners.  Because of their generosity we were able to award 4 prizes in each year group category and an extra Governor’s award.

We wrote to ASDA and Home Bargains to say a BIG thank you for their wonderful donations and also wrote to our Governor's to thank them for judging!

Thank you to everyone who entered, we raised £120.00 towards our playground fund.
